This all seemed to work fine for about 30 minutes whilst I was trying to establish the database connection to the VPN server, which it couldn't find. Googling 'What's My IP' now displayed my own internet IP rather than the VPN server's public IP which I checked before. I removed the Gateway IP and DNS IP from the Virtual DHCP settings on the server so they were all blank. I don't want this, I only want access to the DB server but use my own internet connection for internet access. The VPN connection from the client at my home all connected ok apart from internet being routed from the MySQL server. I am using the Virtual DHCP using the preset range of 192.168.30.x. I have installed the Softether server on the PC in question and disabled the firewall for the moment. I have a MySQL server running on my corporate network: Some modems act as their own routers, and you would have to ask the internet service provider you are renting your modem from if you are renting one how to configure it to open ports for VPN, and then get the ports for VPN from your school.I am having trouble setting up my VPN so I hope somebody can help me. If you have the 4th style of internet address, your VPN should have less trouble connecting. Some other address that corresponds to which is your genuine internet address. Some may only work if you have a hard wired genuine internet IP.Īpple menu -> System Preferences -> Network can tell you if your ethernet has a:ġ0.x.x.x address - router IP address like a WiFi address, more often used for WiFi than 192.x.x.x.ġ92.x.x.x address - router IP address like a WiFi addressġ69.x.x.x address - no active internet address I am in a corporate environment that uses Cisco Anyconnect coupled with RSA SecureID on a Mac that works over WiFi or ethernet home networks. Not knowing the exact ports that need to be open can stop the VPN from working. Essentially you have configurations of your WiFi router, which has its own port openings which may be unique to the VPN. WiFi can break down the tunnel configuration. I have already sent a message to my university IT department, but I wanted to ask for help here as well since I'm not sure if it's an issue with the VPN or an issue with my computer and compatibility. It's becoming a real problem because I cannot access any library resources from home, and if I try too, then my internet disconnects. I am currently running macOS Big Sur 11.4. I know it's not my home WIFI as we have a huge amount of bandwidth, and my phone and my boyfriend's computer still connect to the WIFI completely normally even when my computer is connected to the VPN. Under System Preferences, I also checked my firewall setting and it is already "off". I have gone through several steps of troubleshooting including restarting my WIFI router, deleting and reinstalling the VPN and updating my Mac software. As soon as I exit the VPN, my WIFI works again. However, over the last few days, every time I connect to the VPN off campus, my home WIFI stops and then ultimately disconnects. I have used the VPN for the past few months and have not had any issues. I attend UC Davis and use the provided VPN to access library materials off campus.
